What this does
Changes an image from one format to another — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP — without opening an editor. The pixels are read once and written in the format you pick.
Which format to pick
- JPG: photos, smallest for pictures, no transparency.
- PNG: logos, screenshots, anything with sharp edges or transparency.
- WebP: web use, smaller than both, supported by all current browsers.
- GIF: only when you need a simple animation or 256-colour art.
Good to know
Converting from a lossy format (JPG) to a lossless one (PNG) does not restore detail that was already thrown away.
