What this does

Removes all whitespace and line breaks from JSON, leaving the smallest valid form. Typical saving is 20–40% on hand-written or formatted JSON.

When to use it

  • Embedding JSON in a URL, a data attribute or an environment variable.
  • Reducing payload size for a config that is fetched often.

Good to know

Strings are untouched, so spaces inside values stay. Comments are not valid JSON and cause an error.
