What this does
Rewrites JavaScript so it is hard to read: variables renamed to short meaningless names, strings encoded, control flow reshuffled. The program still runs the same.
When to use it
- Slowing down casual copying of client-side code.
- Hiding string constants such as API endpoints from a quick glance.
Good to know
Obfuscation is not security. Anything the browser can run, a determined person can read. Keep secrets on the server.
