What this does

Converts energy: joule, kilojoule, calorie, kilocalorie (food "Calorie"), watt-hour, kilowatt-hour, BTU and electron-volt.

Handy anchors

  • 1 kcal = 4.184 kJ. 1 kWh = 3.6 MJ = 860 kcal. 1 BTU = 1.055 kJ.
  • A 2,000 kcal diet is about 8.4 MJ, or 2.3 kWh.

Good to know

Food labels in the EU show kJ and kcal; US labels show "Calories", which are kilocalories.
